The year marks the true start of a new decade, and yet 2012's fashion trends are all about revival. The year’s hair trends are no different. For fashionisers in 2012, hair is all about revivals and evolution. With styles and colours we’re seeing the best of 2011 reborn, whereas cuts are offering reworked and luxurious revivals of styles that sit perfectly with the year’s clothing trends.

"In a season defined by minimalism and natural beauty, hairstylists channeled easy elegance for spring. The sporting life was a popular theme with styles that looked fresh from the ocean or outdoors, and classic American glamour had a big moment with polished ponytails, graceful braids, and bouncy blowouts. Still, nothing was too perfect or impeccable—deconstructed waves and undone knots and twists proved that having a bit of an edge is as chic as ever. Glistening Hair

It might be the most low-maintenance look of the season. Wet, barely-wrung hair has a youthful innocence that’s also glamorous when paired with bold eyes or lips.

Hairstylist Guido championed the trend at numerous shows, saturating strands with argan oil to arrive at a glossy finish all over or just at the roots.

Hairstyle Trend: Slicked Back

Also called "the wet look" this style is great for second (or third) day hair and is an easy transition from working out or laying poolside to cocktails. This minimalistic style was seen all over the runways during spring summer 2012 New York Fashion Week.

Undercut haircut men
Return of the undercut.

It was only a few short years ago that it would have been considered a haircut solely for the young and the daring. Thanks to the popularity of a select TV show and the return of an interest in all things 1920s, the undercut returns to its original, classic roots.

In ’12 it’s the men’s quiff that counts
So in 2012 the quiff deviates from something solely early-rock to include a variation that is a whole lot less Gene Vincent and a whole lot more Elvis.

Yes, Elvis was probably of your parents’ generation, but a combination of hair and hip thrusting made him stand out and, as it stands as a 2012 men’s hairstyle, that’s precisely what the quiff is about: standing out with the hope of hip thrusting.
